How do I know if a hearing aid would help me?
If you frequently require more volume on the television and radio than other people, or if you often feel
that people are mumbling, or you find yourself asking people to repeat themselves, you may well be
a candidate. You will get professional and impartial advice on this question from an audiologist.
>
I've been told that hearing aids cannot help a "nerve deafness" like mine. Is this true?
Unfortunately, this is one of the myths still being perpetuated by uninformed people. Most people
who have hearing difficulties may well benefit from expertly prescribed hearing aids. The most
qualified professional to consult about your individual hearing problem is an audiologist - they
know about hearing and hearing loss.

How do I know which hearing aid is best for me?
You first need a consultation to determine if a hearing aid is in fact an appropriate solution to
your needs. If the need for a hearing aid has been established, we will propose various styles and
technologies appropriate for your requirements and your degree of hearing loss.

How much do hearing aids cost?
At Hearing Solutions we fit only quality hearing aids. These range in cost from around $1,400 to
$3,000 plus. The cost depends on the size and style of the aid and the technology chosen.
Generally, the smaller the hearing aid, and the more sophisticated the technology, the higher the
prices. Modern hearing aids offer you a number of choices, which we discuss with you. The cost

covers all consultations over a six-month period after the fitting.

Does Medicare or private health insurance cover the cost of hearing aids?
Most health insurance companies provide hearing aid benefit options. You need to check with your health fund. Medicare does not cover hearing aids. If you are on a pension, you may be eligible through the Commonwealth Government OHS scheme. Phone them on 1800 500 724.

What is a digital hearing aid?
Digital technology has revolutionised the way hearing aids process sound, in the same way that compact disc (CD) players have changed how we listen to music. With digital hearing aid technology, listening comfort and speech clarity can simultaneously be provided with an automated volume control. All digital hearing aids are programmable (a computer is used to set the devices specifically for a client's needs) but not all-programmable hearing aids are totally digital. Digital hearing aids are the most sophisticated amplifying devices currently available and typically the most costly.

I think I may need a hearing aid. What is the process for getting one fitted

The hearing aid process normally comprises three stages:
1. The assessment, diagnosis, review and selection of your options
2. The hearing aid fitting, fine tuning, and verification, according to your individual needs
3. A personal training program enabling you to maximise the use and care of your hearing aid.

The complete process takes about six weeks. It involves at least three consultations, maybe more, depending on individual needs and previous experience. These consultations are included in the total cost of the hearing aid.

Does your office offer a trial period for hearing aids?
Hearing Solutions does not offer a trial period as such. However, there is a 60-day period, starting from the date of fitting, during which a hearing aid can be returned if the outcome proves to be unsatisfactory. The cost of your hearing aid, less an administrative charge of $250 (plus the cost of any ear moulds), will be refunded.

  Do you repair hearing aids?
Yes, we do repair hearing aids. Our staff can check your hearing aid and determine if your problem can be repaired in-house or if service by the manufacturer is required.

  Do hearing aids use batteries?
All hearing aids use batteries. They are easy to change yourself. Most batteries last one to four weeks (sometimes longer) and cost less than $2.00 each. The smaller the battery the shorter their lifespan.
