Hearing Solutions Moves on Privacy Act  
Following the release by the Privacy Commissioner of final guidelines to the National Privacy
Principles that identify how information should be collected, used, secured and disclosed by
companies, Hearing Solutions is taking steps to ensure that we comply with this legislation when
it comes into force on 21 December 2001.

Hearing Solutions already takes considerable care to protect the confidentiality of personal
information that it holds about individuals. Clients are able to update and check their
information and other profile details by completing and returning a request to Hearing Solutions.

Hearing Solution's Privacy Policy will be available on the website in the near future. Disclosure
statements are also being prepared for incorporation into all forms and other documentation
where personal information is requested or provided. Following is an extract of our Privacy
Statement detailing our privacy principles for your information.

In this extract of our Privacy Statement:

"We", "Us" or "Our" refers to Hearing Solutions Australia Pty Limited (ACN082 382 536) and its
employees, agents and associated entities. "You" or "Your" refers to you the member.

Agreement to Disclose and Consent to Use

1. You have, in completing your information forms, disclosed to us information about you,
    including information in relation to:  
a) Your health; and
b) Your financial position.
2. Our Privacy Statement, sets out the ways that we can disclose that information to:
a) Credit agencies (in the case of financial information);
b) Our staff (in the case of health information); and
c) Referring medical practitioners (in the case of health information)
 

and you consent to that disclosure.

 
     
In dealing with information disclosed to us by you, we will deal with that information in  
accordance with the privacy principles set out below and with the Privacy Act 1988.  
 
 

Privacy Principles

 
  These principles set out how we will deal with information which we collect from you.  
1. We will only collect information that is necessary for what we do.
2. We will be fair in the way we collect information about you.
3. We will tell you what we intend to do with the information about you.
4. Where practicable, we will collect personal information directly from you.
5. If we collect information about you from someone else we will, wherever possible, make
sure you know we have done this.
6. We will use or disclose information about you in ways that are consistent with your
expectations and our Privacy Statement or are required in the public interest.
7. We will ensure that information about you is accurate when we collect or use it.
8. We will keep information about you secure.
9. We will be open with you about what kinds of personal information we hold and what we do
with it.
10. Wherever possible, we will let you see the information we hold about you and correct it if it
is wrong.
11. We will limit our use of identifiers that government agencies have assigned to you.
12. If we can (and you want to) we will deal with you anonymously.
13. We will take steps to protect your privacy if we send personal information about you to a
third party.
14. We will limit the collection of highly sensitive information about you.
